Full Description
Quebec Park.
(S1) states grade two star with regional importance.
Walled courts and a mature lime avenue existed in 1784 suggesting that the planting accompanied the house of 1759 and there may even have been an older layout (see NHER 2888). In 1791 roads altered and a small 'lawn' or park with tree belts established. Between 1812 and 1820 heathland to north was taken in and land west of the road included. Park doubled in size between 1838/9 and 1884. Northwest Lodge ('Gingerbread Cottage' remarkably built of carstone E. Rose (NLA)) added and new home farm. Some original walled gardens survived until early 20th century. Land sold off piecemeal in 1911 and by the end of 1912 over a thousand trees had been felled. Ornamental gardens reduced and in fact what is now parkland south of the hall was formerly under plough for a time. The legend that the plantations represent the pattern of troops at the Battle of Quebec is untrue; the trees follow pre-park boundaries except for a few small additions, and the original planting west of the road, now a golf course, has long since gone and its layout unknown. The county number omits those areas of the park built over between 1970 and 1997 but includes the area being developed in 1998 as the original trees are being allowed to remain.

Most of park area is visible. If any area of garden remains, it cannot be determined in these photographs.
H. Clare (NLA), 29 March 2001.
January 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project (volunteer strand).
A former pathway within Quebec Park (described above), which is depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S2), is partly visible as an earthwork on visualised lidar data, from a survey flown in 2017 (S3). It passed to the southwest of Quebec Hall, between the road and the hall. The earthworks are visible between approximately TF 9837 1473 and TF 9863 1439.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 19 January 2024.
