Norfolk Gardens Trust Town Garden Survey (S1) lists as grade two-star (regional importance). May occupy part of burial ground of St Mary's Hospital (see NHER 4333).
Assumed present use as burial ground for various denominations of Dissenters before 1794, at which date a much larger area than at present was enclosed. The present area was divided off by 1824, two adjacent areas being separate and all three wooded. 1828 the land was acquired by the Yarmouth General Cemetery Company. From 1828 to 1854, 1534 interments took place; ground then closed except for existing vaults. Became public open space 1929. Town Wall now forms east side, with marks possibly of removed memorial plaques; north and south walls are old, west wall of various dates. Raised platform along east side marks the vaults; paths surfaced with old memorial stones. Eight main trees, grass and invasive sycamore.
See (S1) for details.

The burial ground was assessed for listing in 1992 (when the whole of Great Yarmouth was resurveyed) but was deemed to be of insufficient quality to list. The Case Summary (S3) notes the presence of a single chest tomb of 1845 and a few simple stone flags of mid- to late 19th-century date.
