Summary

Analysis of aerial photographs revealed the presence of rectangular house platforms in this area of Bintree Common. Collection of surface scatters has revealed concentrations of Roman and medieval pottery on this site and it is possible this is an area of Roman and medieval occupation.

1946.
RAF air photograph shows series of enclosures/tofts partly on earthworks in north half, soil marks in southern portion.

1988.
Earthworks now arable land, considerable spread of pottery found on surface indicating Roman and medieval settlement sites on south-west flanks of Bintree Common. South portion is recreation ground - not inspected. One slight rise in centre of arable has some clay on surface with flint scatter and could be building position as pottery concentration noted in this area. Marked on 1:10 000 map as C1.
Pottery:
Roman greyware - four jar rims, one bowl rim, four bases, nine body sherds. Several of reasonable site and fairly fresh.
Medieval unglazed - one bowl rim, three bases, twenty body sherds.
Glazed Grimston - one strap handle, one 'arm' attachment for face jug, four body sherds.
