April 1998. Metal detecting.
Late Saxon 11th century stirrup-strap mount of Williams' type 6. Right- angled flange at base, with two holes filled with iron rivets just above. Above the rivets, two animal heads in relief, with oval eyes, open jaws and long curly lips. The bodies of the animals curve around forming a border, and then turn back to end in curly bifurcated tails. Between the tails is a third iron rivet with ?animal head knob above. A branching plant runs up the centre of the mount. (S1) NCM.
