Summary

Holmwood House was built in 1846 of yellow brick with a slate roof. The park was created in 1889 by joining the southern pastures to the garden. The mature oaks from the field boundaries remain, but the southern area is now in use as Rugby Club grounds.

House also known as Russell Court, Caynton and Ely House.
No house (of any size) on site before late 18th century. Land purchased by Montague family 1841 who retained it until 1937, but present house, listed as of 1846, is not on the same site as the 1841 house. Park not created until 1889 by joining pastures to south to the garden. Mature oaks from field boundaries remain but southern area now Rugby Club grounds, with little timber, levelled.
No access allowed to immediate surround of house. However, Norfolk Historic Gardens Survey grade the site as two star (regional importance) as good example of small private park.
