Summary

An excavation in 1998 revealed pits and gullies that probably represent features associated with a 19th/early 20th century tannery or coalyard. There were no earlier features or finds.

September 1998. Trial Trench.
Evaluation on site of proposed development at Kents Loke, rear of 'Whistlestop'.
No archaeological features or deposits pre-dating the 19th century.
Pits and gullies which were recorded probably represent features associated with a tannery or coal yard, both of which occupied the site at different times in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
