Full Description
September 1998. Metal detecting.
Early medieval very beautiful openwork copper alloy mount depicting a mounted figure carrying a kite shaped shield. Possible interlace design on outer edge.
Cast lead hemispherical spindle whorl. Upper surface decorated with naïve motifs of opposed birds and ?human figures. Slightly irregular central perforation. Style of decoration suggests a late medieval/early post medieval date. Similar to Elizabethan strip work embroidery designs. Weight 94.71g.
