Map

January-April 1997. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey on proposed route of Bacton to Great Yarmouth pipeline (Field/Location RDX 13.1).
23 pot boilers were recovered along with quantities Neolithic to Bronze Age flint including scrapers, retouched flakes, and a core. As with the field immediately north, these finds were evenly scattered throughout the field. Medieval to post medieval sherds and a post medieval coin were also found.
See report (S1) for further details.

November 1998. Systematic Fieldwalking Survey.
Additional field survey on proposed route of Bacton to Great Yarmouth pipeline (Field/Location RDX 13.1; Site 4).
270m of this field was walked, after which change in land use prevented further survey.
Twelve prehistoric flint flakes, one complete and one burnt core fragment, a side scraper and a hammer flake were recovered along with 147 fragments of burnt flint, four unglazed 13th-14th century pottery sherds, five post medieval pottery sherds, and seven fragments of post medieval ceramic building material. The worked flint material was clustered towards each end of the area walked and have been dated to the Late Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age. The burnt flint was evenly distributed across the site, but slightly more dense in the vicinity of the worked flint clusters.

March-May 1999. Excavation.
Excavation on route of Bacton to Great Yarmouth pipeline (Site 4).
The northern part of the site revealed two small pits containing charcoal that may represent post-holes or small rubbish pits of possible Bronze Age date. In the southern end of the site a small cluster of post-holes between 0.6m in diameter and pits were revealed including a probably four post structure. Pottery sherds dating to the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age were recovered from post-hole 47 along with a low density of unidentified seeds. A small quantity of spelt glume bases were recovered from post-hole 227. It is possible that some of the other features in this area may represent a structure of unknown function. Two or three possible rubbish pits were found to contain sherds of Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age pottery, charcoal-rich sandy deposits, burnt flint and patches of burnt clay.
