Summary

A concentration of 12th to 13th century pottery fragments and a small quantity of post medieval pottery and tile was recorded here during a fieldwalking and metal detecting survey in advance of a gas pipeline between Bacton and Great Yarmouth. Subsequent metal-detecting recovered medieval and post-medieval coins and a range of other metal objects including an Early Saxon brooch; a medieval buckle; a medieval/post-medieval bell; various post-medieval objects and an undatable lead weight.

January-April 1997. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey on proposed route of Bacton to Great Yarmouth pipeline (Field/Location RDX 36.13).
11 sherds of 12- to 13th-century pottery were recovered from the first 15m at the north of the plot, continuing the dense scatter recorded in RDX 36.12 (NHER 34042). One sherd of post medieval pottery and two fragments of post medieval ceramic building material were also recovered.

2009. Metal-detecting.
Recovered during visit by three Dutch detectorists:
1 Early Saxon small-long brooch.
1 medieval buckle.
1 medieval/post-medieval bell.
1 post-medieval crotal bell, 5 buckles, 1 copper alloy button, 1 strap or dress fitting, 1 candle stick socket, 1 copper alloy stud, 1 lead cloth seal and 5 lead balls (probably ammunition).
1 undatable lead weight.
