Full Description
Cringleford House/Roseland House, also known as 8 and 10 Newmarket Road.
October 1987. Listed, Grade II.
House, now two dwellings, rebuilt 1794 on 16th century core for Thrower Buckle. Brick and black glaze pantiles. Double pile; five bays three storeys and cellar; flanking two bay, two storey extensions with slate roofs. Original piles have internal stacks. Modillion cornice and parapet, recessed sashes. Porch of about 1885 with reset 18th century door. Left wing extended one bay about 1920 to take stone doorway said to be from Great Yarmouth town hall ((S1) takes this to mean the town hall of 1882 but could it mean predecessor?). Basket light above with 19th century painted glass. 17th century leaded light on rear upper windows. Conservatory with 19th century painted Pre Raphaelite glass. Interior has 16th century roof timbers reused 1794; grand 18th century staircase; reset 19th century Corinthian door. On site of house called Flotmans in 1584, of same dimensions.
