The site extends along 80m of the route where it follows the eastern edge of a minor road by Willow Grange, near to an area of former field boundaries identified from Ordnance Survey maps.

Map

May 1998. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometry survey on route of proposed pipeline (Site 8).
This field shows localised susceptibility anomalies and lies close to a recorded finds scatter (NHER 7241). There is magnetic interference near the road at Site 8.
Upwards of ten possible pits were identified, and a surface concentration of unworked flint and ceramic building materials were noted by the reconnaissance survey. The site extends along 80m of the route where it follows the eastern edge of a minor road by Willow Grange. The site is near to an area of former field boundaries identified from Ordnance Survey maps, and an area of detected finds, including Romano-British and later metalwork.
See report report (S1) for further details.

April to July 1999. Archaeological Excavation and Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of Brisley to Bushy Common Pipeline (Plot 14).
No features were found to correspond with the magnetometer survey anomolies described above. A large single pit was found to the west of the geophysical survey area, which was interpreted as a quarry pit for marl extraction, backfilled rapidly, the fill containing residual nineteenth- or twentieth century brick and pottery fragments.
A small number of unstratified finds were also recovered including a Mesolithic or Early Neolithic blade fragment and three Neolithic or Bronze Age pieces (a scraper and two flakes).
See report (S2) for further details.
