Summary

These 18th- to 19th-century buildings stand on top of important 17th-century cellars. Parts of the interior of these cellars retain wooden 17th-century panelling.

Listing Description excerpt for 20 Market Place:
"House and shop, now all a shop, integral on the ground floor with No.21. 17th-century origins, re-fronted mid 19th century, altered late 20th century. Red brick, rendered and colourwashed. Pantiled roof. Three storeys; three-window range. Mid 20th-century plate-glass shop front under a prominent fascia board...Eaves cornice with mutule brackets. Gabled roof. Internal gable-end stacks north and south. To the rear is a hipped warehouse range of two storeys and dormer attic…
INTERIOR: ground floor 20th-century in character, opened out into a unified sales floor contiguous with No.21 . The two cellar ranges run parallel to street. Front range of 17th-century brick, sunk-quadrant moulded bridging beams and two blocked shutes to the street. Rear cellar also 17th-century brick, re-used 16th-century roll-moulded and crenellated bridging beams and north and south walls clad in 17th-century small-framed panelling."

"Shop with flat over. 17th-century origins, re-built c.1840, altered late 20th century. Gault brick under a slate roof. Two gabled ranges. Three storeys; two-window range. Ground floor with a mid 20th-century plate-glass shop front extending over No.20…Gabled roof with a segmental-headed dormer fitted with plate glass. Stack to north on front roof slope. Rear range with stack to north on rear roof slope.
INTERIOR: Ground floor opened out as one sales area and contiguous with No.20. Cellar runs perpendicular to street line: 17th-century brick."
