Summary

A large fragment of a medieval cooking pot was found during works by the River Glaven in 1998. Also found was a bone from a small horse that evidently had suffered from arthritis.

December 1998. Found in constructing new weir on the River Glaven, where it passes under the disused railway line (NHER 13584). On the north edge of the river, very close to the railway bridge, so possibly in disturbed ground.
Found in a peaty layer, 1.5 to 2 m down.
One large and fresh sherd of a medieval cooking pot, unglazed, sooted externally, very thin walled and with two lightly incised parallel lines, 25 mm apart, on the external surface. 12th to 14th century.
Also complete metapodial from a small horse, with arthritis.
