Map

Wreck.
Tank landing craft sunk 1947 as target.
Hydrographic survey however refer to this as 'two hulks'.
Information from National Monuments Record.
E. Rose (NLA), 15 January 1999.

February 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Position taken from a 1958 RAF (S3) vertical photograph with little control, and the above grid reference is only approximate. This is presumably the vessel recorded under site NHER 34152, although there is a smaller vessel to the south-west, present from 1946 (S4). The vessel has an elongated appearance with an approximate length of 71m and an approximate width of 15m, which appears to be larger than the dimensions recorded on the NMR maritime listing (this may be partly due to the rectification). The vessel may be a landing craft but the tapered, built-up aft of the vessel seems to suggest it is a barge.
The vessel is presumably a bombing range target, and part of a series of ranges within the Wash. The vessel appears to be a single plain colour in 1952 (S1), and to have been painted with stripes in 1953 (S2). The vessel is in a deteriorating condition from 1958 onwards (S4).
M. Brennand (NMP), 26 February 2003.

May-November 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Archaeological Survey.
Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 1), Context 653:
Hulk embedded in estuarine and saltmarsh mud. Shell holes indicate that the vessel was used for target practice during military training.
Located at TF 54087 27004, approximately 72m to the south of its location recorded by NMP.
See assessment report (S5) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
J. Allen (NLA), 12 April 2005. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 30 June 2015 and 21 July 2019.
