Map

16 March 1999. Field Observation. Compartment 4091.
A scallop-shaped clearing of immature trees on the eastern edge of the compartment has revealed a substantial bank running roughly east to west, around 0.50m high and 5m across. It seems to continue in the plantation to the west (ie 4091) but not in the cleared plantation to the east (4090).
D. Gurney (NLA), 16 March 1999.

April 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
No obvious evidence of the undated boundary bank described above was identified at the recorded location on the consulted aerial sources. However, aerial photographs taken in 2010 (a year after the field visit, S1) show a 'scallop-shaped clearing' described above approximately 100m to the south of the originally recorded location (S2). Here, a substantial bank is visible, the full length of which is visible on imagery from a recent lidar survey (S3). It was almost certainly the eastern portion of this bank that was identified during the earlier field visit. A second, curvilinear bank is visible to its south. Both correspond with boundaries depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 6 inch map (S4) and are therefore of post-medieval date (although an earlier origin cannot be ruled out). NMP mapping has altered the central grid reference of the site from TL 8387 8982 to TL 8375 8961 [1].
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 6 April 2017.
