Summary

Metal-detecting in 1998 and between 2013 and 2015 recovered a Neolithic/Bronze Age flint borer; medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds, a medieval/post-medieval jetton and undated, Bronze Age and medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undated casting waste, a weight and a spindle whorl; a Late Bronze Age axehead and a medieval lead seal matrix, buckle and lead ampulla.

1998. Metal detecting.
Late Bronze Age axe. Drawn at NCM (S1 and S3).
Rectangular medieval buckle plate with rivet hole at each corner (two at hinge) end with surviving rivets. Broken at fold, pin slot, frame recesses. Worn decoration of a double grooved border with letter AT within. Traces of gilding. (S2) at NCM.
Medieval lead seal matrix, long pointed oval (50 by 21mm) pierced lug at one end on reverse and also odd circular depression. Worn front perhaps never very well made. Central motif a deeply cut fleur-de-lis with illegible legend around. 13th century or 14th century. (S2) at NCM.
Small medieval lead ampulla, once bent now straightened. Complete with two triangular handles. Top now open (has it been cut off?). Decoration is worn, but there is a circle with obliquely ribbed border on one side, and a broad arrow (? for Bury St Edmunds) in an obliquely ribbed border on the other. (S1) at NCM.
Very crudely made plano-convex lead weight/spindle whorl, with slightly tapering central hole. Weighing 28.59g (=1oz). Undatable.
