In 1978 a quarter noble of Edward III, minted between 1361 and 1369, was recovered on mudflats in this area at low tide.

A quarter noble of Edward III (1327 - 1377), issued in the 'Treaty Period' of 1361 - 1369.
Obverse reads: Edward Dei Gra Rex Angli.
Reverse reads: Exaltabitur in Gloria.
