Map

June 1999. Fen Farm, Ash Lane.
(S1) describes as timber framed house, early 17th century.
Two storeys and attic to west, one storey and dormer attic to east. Central brick chimneystack. Another chimneystack to east part. West part has ovolo moulded beams, east part roll moulded beams.
Seen only in passing by but noted that taller section is jettied; whole is thatched. It looks like a hall house with an inserted upper floor and added or rebuilt parlour block. But if the listing is accurate, then beam in the hall sounds more 16th century, that in the parlour 17th. Was the hall floored before the parlour was added? Needs examination.
E. Rose (NLA), 2 June 1999.
