Map

21 August 1998. Stray Find.
Found by [1] on surface near old, now overgrown marl pit:
1 Lower Palaeolithic retouched ovate flint handaxe. Small gravel and yellow clay still sticking to it when found.
Golden brown patination; retouching has a milky patination but this seems to be for reasons of deposition as the retouching seems to be contemporary and not subsequent. See sketch (S1).
Donated to Sandringham Royal Estate Museum.
Identified and compiled by E. Rose (NLA) 3 September 1999.
This discovery was later reported in (S2). The handaxe was also seen by J. J. Wymer in 2001 and is briefly described on (S3).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 10 December 2013.
