Summary

This building was formerly the premises of the National Provisional bank, although it was built as a house around 1730-1740, on the remains of a 16th century house. This two storey building is of red brick in Flemish bond, with a roof of black glazed pantiles. There is a mid 19th century shop front with Roman Doric door to the passage, and in the passageway are roll and hollow moulded joists and wallplates from around 1500.

January 1951. Listed, Grade II.

Former National Provisional bank. Built as house around 1730-1740 on remains of 16th-century house. Red brick, Flemish bond, black glazed pantiles. Two storeys and dormers. Seven bays. Mid-19th-century shop front with Roman Dorix door to passage. Remainder of shop 20th century. Twelve-pane sash windows first floor. Modillion cornice. Gabled roof with gabled dormer between flat topped dormers, the right hand one is blind and painted. Internal west stack and ridge stack to right. In the passageway are roll and hollow moulded joist and wallplates around 1500. Some 18th-century panelling in house and 18th-century staircase survives at top alone.
