Full Description
Savings Bank, built 1859 (not 1885 as on 1972 list description).
In Tudor-Gothic style, rare in the town at that time. Architects Medland and Maberley, London Road, Gloucester for £2000.
(S1) described carved ceilings and a Caen stone fireplace. The latter is enormous; this was the first savings bank to continue the external design into the interior rather than having the standard layout. It is of great importance. Became YMCA in 1891 who put their name on the exterior. Escaped demolition about 1990 and became a club.
Compare with (S2).
E. Rose (NLA), 4 October 1999.
Revised 1993 listing (S4) says 'now meeting house'.

The building was used as a club house for the King's Lynn Branch of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes for around 30 years until 2015 when it was sold to a developer. In 2017 a planning application was submitted proposing conversion to residential apartments. This proposal includes extensive repairs and restoration work, a minor first floor extension and the reinstatement of front railings and gate believed to have been removed in the 1940s.
