Map

1998. Metal detecting.
H. M. Geake (NCM) identified the find as:
Roman Dolphin brooch. Semi-cylindrical wings open at the back for spring mechanism, now missing but originally held by a rear-facing hook. The wings are decorated at the tips by a broad vertical groove with a narrower groove on either side. The bow has two broad vertical grooves with a ridge in between; the ridge has three narrow vertical grooves down it which retain traces of a white metal coating. The bow decoration stops just short of the foot at a transverse groove; foot has faint scar from catchplate on reverse.
K. Sussams (NCM) 13 May 1999.
