Summary

During the construction of the Stumpcross Flyover in 1971 a number of post medieval pottery sherds and a clay pipe fragment were recovered. A layer of black mud 3m deep on Magdalen Street was also noted, suggesting a stream bed or ditch.

1971. Material from holes for flyover supports.
Includes Delft, Westerwald stoneware, Staffordshire Cobalt ware and handle from Raeren stoneware bottle and a clay pipe bowl. Black mud found about 3m (10ft) deep on west side of Magdalen Street under a flyover support. May be stream bed or ditch, difficult to say which.
