Map

August-September 1998. Metal detecting.
Late Saxon stirrup mount of Williams' Class B, Type 1. It is unusual in two respects - it is solid, not openwork and has no flange. It is rectangular, there are iron rivets at the botton corners, three solid relief animal heads on the front and wavy-edged projections on the corners (with a little imagination, these projection look like animal heads).
Three holes at the top, one in each projection and one in centre. Nearly flat in cross-section.
Anglo-Scandinavian. 11th century date.
Polaroid (S1) taken.
A. Rogerson (NLA) 18 July 1999.
