Summary

Three probable post medieval human skeletons were dug up during redevelopment works. They may be associated with the Quaker Meeting House that was built nearby in 1689. The remains have been reburied at the site.

8 February 2000. Found on triangle of ground during excavations for an urban regeneration scheme.
Human skeletal remains.
Large bag containing predominantly long bones with vertebrae and ribs, seen by A. Rogerson (NLA) at Gressenhall, and brought there by [1]. These may be from a burial ground associated with a Quaker Meeting House established 1689. The burial ground in Old Road began to be used in 1754. See (S1). The triangle of ground is shown on (S2) with a small building on its northeast corner.

9 February 2000. Field Observation.
Found during machine clearance of overburden (modern rubble) down to an earlier ground surface.
Two or more articulated burials in situ. West to east burials. Since excavation stopped at this point, with preparation of the surface for carpark (shing and new tarmac), these left in situ. [2] arranged for earlier finds of human skeletal remains held by Norfolk Constabulary at Fakenham police station to be returned for burial on site.
