Full Description
February-March 1998. Metal detecting.
Identified by H.M. Geake (NCM).
Disc brooch with slightly worn motif of a backwards looking animal within a border of radial nicks.
The animal has 4 three toed legs, a nicked mane, a thick tail pointing upwards and open jaws. Any eye has worn away.
On the reverse is a broken transverse pin lug and the remains of a catchplate.
Middle Saxon or Late Saxon, probably 9th century. (S1).
