Full Description
Before October 1998. Metal detecting. [1].
Late Saxon most of a stirrup-strap mount of (S1) Class A, type IIA. Broken across the base (old break), the flange is completely missing. The relief lion faces right and is well modelled, with open mouth biting at a lobe, ribbed mane and curly tail. The apex is trefoil and has a hole blocked with iron corrosion. [2].
Anglo-Scandinavian. 11th century.

Medieval gilt bronze belt mount with pendant ring. The mount has a small circular plate, with an integral rivet on reverse, and a projection which is bent down and back to hold the ring and then joins onto the rivet. The ring is large and has a roundish cross-section. Identified by H.M.Geake (NCM) October 1998.
