Late 1998. Metal detecting.
Early Saxon leg from a cruciform brooch. Broken just above the base of the bow (fairly fresh break), there is a transverse moulding with two grooves filling the anle between the bow and the leg. Below is a long flat part with projecting lappets to either side. One is broken and bent but they appear to be two birds heads with circular stamps outlining the head and a curly beak with median groove. A straight moulding with grooves separates the head and beak. Below, at the junction between the leg and foot are two transverse mouldings decorated with grooves. Then comes the upper part of a horse head foot with an old break. Lots of bright azurite (copper decay product). Catchplate on reverse.
