Map

August-September 1999. Metal detecting. Field 21.
Identified by H.M. Geake (NCM).
Early Post medieval copper alloy hook plate from a sword belt. Now in rather corroded condition, the plate is basically U-shaped with a broken hook extending from the curved end. There is a large circular perforation in the curved end, and a long wedge-shaped perforation flares towards the other end. There is a small rivet hole in either corner at this end, which may have been decoratively shaped but is now broken. Remains of engraved lozenges fill the space either side of the wedge-shaped perforation. See (S1) for sword-belt fittings with long perforations.
K. Hinds (NLA) 25 February 2000.

15 April 2005. Parish fieldwalking survey Field 20, site extended. Previously centred at [1].
