Summary

A systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey undertaken in 2004 recovered a moderate quantity of prehistoric flint and identified concentrations of medieval and post-medieval pottery. Other finds included post-medieval clay tobacco pipe and ceramic building material fragments, a post-medieval coin and a number of other post-medieval, modern and undatable metal object. The results of earlier fieldwalking in 2000 are still awaited.

February 2004. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey. Contexts 1-92.
Finds included:
47 prehistoric struck flints, including 1 core, 3 scrapers, and 1 blade.
7 burnt flint fragments.
12 medieval pottery sherds.
45 post-medieval pottery sherds, 4 clay pipe fragments and 17 fragments ceramic building material, 1 silver coin, 1 chape, 1 lead cloth seal and 1 lead weight.
1 undated coin, 2 lead ?weights and 1 hook fastening.
34 metal objects considered to be of non-archaeological value.
A concentration of medieval pottery was located in the northwest of the field, covering an area of approximately 80m by 20m. Numerous post-medieval pottery sherds and fragments of ceramic building material were recovered from the north-east of the field.
