Summary

A row of two-storey timber-framed shops and houses with a pantiled roof and overhanging moulded eaves, probably dating to about 1600, with 18th- and 19th-century alterations. The ground floors of Nos 13, 19 and 21 have 19th-century shop fronts. Nos 15 and 17 have moulded doorways. To the rear of No 17 and 19 is a 19th-century building that was probably once a barn or cart shed, later converted for use as an early photographer's workshop (NHER 43868).

Listing Description excerpt:
"Range of houses and shops. Probably 17th century. Timber frame building with roughcast front and early 19th-century fenestration. Steeply pitched pantile roof with brick coped gable ends. Overhanging moulded eaves with paired brackets. Two storeys and attic. Seven windows. Sashes with glazing bars. Ground floor. Nos. 13, 19 and 21 have 19th-century shop fronts with thin pilasters, fascias and cornices, No. 13 has glazing bars intact. Nos. 15 and 17 have moulded architrave door-cases with cornices and panelled doors. Three segmental headed dormers with glazing bars. Brick chimney stacks. 18th-century brick wing at rear of No. 19 and 21. Lean-to on north end. Interior chamfered beams."
