NHER 35332 (Find Spot record) - Medieval horse harness pendant

December 1999 to January 2000. Metal detecting. Cross reference: near NHER 31798.
Medieval small circular horse harness pendant with broken loop at top. Decorated with a raised shield shape in the centre, on which is a red enamelled cross pattee. The rest of the pendant has rather orangey gilding, which must have worn off the raised shield.
Outside the shield is a beaded border, then a legend which is unfortunately now unreadable. Other examples of this type of pendant are known, some with religious inscriptions (eg AVE MARIA...) and some with personal ones (e.g. Seal of Edward son of Richard). The heraldry on the shield is so basic that it is uncertain whether it actually would have been the coat of arms of the person mentioned, or just a general representation of a shield.
