Map

Limekiln. Probably constructed c.1820, unusual raised form for Norfolk. Disused in about 1850, possibly used as slaking pit in 1903 when school built. Excavated before 1999, no date for excavation given in (S1).
E. Rose (NLA), 31 May 2000.

The kiln is only marked on one enclosure map from 1810 which appears to be a revised edition. It is marked on the Tithe map 1839 (S2) It was aparently last fired in 1959.
There is also a theory which dictates that it might be an icehouse. This is plausible, and it is possible that an icehouse structure could have been converted into use as a kiln.
