The centre of the site has been amended from TL 9781 9026 to TL 9780 9019 as a result of the NMP mapping.
It is likely that the earthworks visible on the aerial photographs (S1-S4) in this area are largely those of post medieval drainage ditches. However, it is also possible that the curvilinear ditch feature does represent a trackway, as suggested above, or perhaps more likely, a curvilinear field boundary, and that the ditched enclosures represent field boundaries, or possibly even fen edge settlement in the medieval to post medieval period.
The features are visible as clear earthworks on the earliest photographs (S1-S2), as cropmarks in later years (S3), and are apparent as lodging of the crop on the most recent Google Earth imagery (S4). However, it is difficult to discern any earlier features from the post medieval field boundaries on the latter two images, and therefore the earthworks have been mapped from the earliest available photography.
