Full Description
Hooper Lane Brickworks.
Two windmills shown here on map of 1838 (S1) and one on 1884 map (S2). 1884 OS shows several brick kilns. By late 19th century these had been replaced by one Hoffman kiln and the brick pits had removed the sites of the windmills. After World War Two the site changed use to a gravel pit but the kiln remained until the 1960s. Area then used as refuse tip; now Travelling Showmen's winter quarters.
Compiled by E. Rose, 18 August 2000.
