Summary

Trial trenching at this site in 2000 revealed a sequence of intercut east-to-west aligned ditches. Dating evidence was limited to a sherd of Iron Age pottery recovered from one of the ditches and a single medieval sherd found on the surface of the features.

Evaluation of proposed development site.
The eastermost of the two trenches excavated revealed a sequence of three intercutting probable ditches sealed beneath a considerable depth of colluvium. These features produced a single, potentially residual sherd of Iron Age pottery, an iron nail, a small assemblage of animal bone and a number of oyster and mussell shells. A sherd of early medieval pottery was also recovered from the surface of these features. It is argued that the orientation of these features (which is similar to that of extant boundaries in the vicinity and perpendicular toalignement of these features
