Summary

Metal detecting recovered an unusual Roman 2nd century AD trumpet brooch. The spring and pin of the brooch are missing.

Before 25 September 2000. Metal detecting.
Roman unusual trumpet brooch, spring and pin missing. Deep grooves and fine incises line on each side of bow. Bow interrupted mid-point by two deep mouldings between which projects a rectangular boss with a deep oval (empty) setting for enamel (like headstud brooches). Moulded foot with empty setting for enamel on underside. Solid slightly damaged catchplate. Length 59mm. 2nd century.
