Summary

Metal-detecting between 1998 and 2016 recovered Late prehistoric worked flint, including scrapers and an Early Neolithic flint blade; Early Iron Age to Early Saxon blue glass bead; Roman and medieval pottery sherds; Roman, Middle and Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Bronze Age chisel; an Iron Age brooch; Roman brooches, belt fittings, a bar-mount, mirror fragment and elaborate knife handle in the shape of a lion; an Early Saxon patrix; Middle Saxon pins, hanging bowl fragments, a linked pin and strap-end; a Middle Saxon/Late Saxon strap-end and buckle plate/strap fitting; a Late Saxon weight, strap-end, stirrup, stirrup-strap mount, harness cheek-piece and Scandinavian trefoil brooch; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval seal matrix, lead weight and harness mount and pendants; a medieval/post-medieval iron whittle-tang knife, copper-alloy vessel rim, earring and casket key and a post-medieval copper alloy book fitting, spurs, harness mount and crotal bell.
