Summary

Metal detecting recovered a silver 16th century dress hook or hooked tag and a rare Middle to Late Saxon prick spur made of copper alloy. The spur has unusual curved sides and animal head terminals. Only two other example of this type of spur are known from Norfolk.

Trefoliate gilded silver dress hook or hooked tag. Decorated with filigree circles and pellets. Central bossed stud holds a sexfoil sheet 'flower' in place and its shank bifurcates at rear, both parts being folded flat. The hook and attachment loop are soldered onto reverse. 24 x 18mm. Weight 3.98g. 16th century.
