Summary

Aerial photographs taken in 1996 show the cropmarks of ring ditches, pits and linear features at this location. The origin of these pits is unclear, but they are located alongside and running parallel to the cropmarks of a road (NHER 1973) and could be connected to its construction. Several mounds are also visible here, as low earthworks on visualised lidar data. Two of these may correspond to the ring ditches visible as cropmarks, suggesting that they are Bronze Age round barrows.

Map

29 July 1996. NLA aerial photography (S1).
Cropmarks of two ring ditches and linears visible.
In addition to this, there are cropmarks showing that suggest pits (eight or more).
The origin of these pits is unclear, but they are located alongside and running parallel to the road cropmark (NHER 1973) and could be connected to its construction (as quarrying pits for road materials).
H. Clare (NLA) 3 May 2001.

November 2025. Northwest Norfolk Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
A line of three small mounds is visible as this location on visualised lidar data, from a survey flown in 2018 (S2). The central and northeastern mound probably correspond with the ring ditches described above, suggesting that they are Bronze Age round barrows. Aerial photographs from various years (S3-S5) show some of the mounds, and up to three corresponding ring ditches. The features have not been mapped as they fall outside the project area.
