The cropmarks of a rectangular enclosure, associated field boundaries and a trackway of unknown, but probable Roman date are visible on aerial photographs to the northwest of Surlingham Broad (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 3078 0804. Finds dating from the Roman, Saxon and medieval to post medieval periods have been recovered in this general vicinity, with a noticeable quantities of Roman material (NHER 15999, 20330-1, 20434, 30475, 31194, 32598, 34969, 34966, 35135).

The site consists of a sub-rectangular enclosure, 36m by 20m, is located at TG 3060 0801. To the immediate south of this is a rectilinear enclosed area, measuring 140m by 130m, internal subdividing ditches are visible within this area. A trackway and associated ditches following a similar alignment is visible approximately 250m to the east. It seems likely that the majority of the ditches defined agricultural fields, although it is possible that they had a non-agricultural function. The purpose of the sub-rectangular enclosure is not obvious from the cropmarks.
S. Massey (NMP), 28 June 2007.
