Summary

No 26 and 28 are two houses, originally three, with an early 19th century brick skin. However, the rear projection contains ceiling beams from the 17th to early 18th century, and these may be indicative of an older origin for this house. The rear garden wall of No 28 is built on the approximate line of the precinct wall of the abbey (NHER 9437), and contains a carved limestone block dated to the 15th century.

September 2001. Field Observation.
In rear garden wall to south on approximate line of precinct wall of abbey (NHER 9437) a carved limestone block in form of finial or canopy, 15th century.
House is 19th century, originally tuck-pointed, as far as street block is concerned but rear projection contains ceiling beams from the 17th to early 18th century - apparently only remnant of older house on site.
