Full Description
August 2001. Air Photo Interpretation.
A complex series of features probably representing multi-period activity is visible on NLA aerial photography taken in 1996 (S1).
An extensive curving linear feature appears to run parallel with and in conjunction with the existing field boundaries (some of them). It is not clear why this feature is curving, possibly a park boundary? The feature appears to be post-dated by an approximately square enclosure with an entrance at its northeast side. The remainder of the features probably represent land division boundaries and enclosures/fields. These features have the appearance of medieval/post medieval land or park boundaries, possibly associated with Baconsthorpe Castle/Hall.
Not visible on Ordnance Survey First Edition 2-inch map (S2).
M. Brennand (NLA), 29 August 2001.
