Full Description
28 June 1996. NLA air photography.
Cropmark site consisting of a trackway with a series of rectilinear enclosures attached.
The layout is quite regular and may be a field system arrangement, although smaller enclosed areas within this may indiacte settlement or paddocks. To the northwest of the group is a rectilinear enclosure with broader ditches, rounded corner and entrance feature to the south. This seems to relate to the other enclosures, although this cannot be proved. To the northeast of the group is a rectangular enclosure with exceptionally broad ditches, possibly even a moated element.
Three ring ditches are also visible, the largest being located at NGR TG 1821 3698. One of the ring ditches is quite small, at approximately TG 1820 3683. The larger of the three ring ditches are likely to be Bronze Age. The enclosures and trackway may be Roman features, although a later medieval date is possible. the rectangular, broad enclosure (possibly moated) may be a different date and phase to the rest. This may be medieval.
