Summary

Metal detecting here in 2001-02 recovered a medieval copper alloy gilt buckle with an oval frame with pecked foliate decoration. The buckle also featured a repousse lion passant reguardant outlined by drilled holes and lines of pecked decoration.

Medieval Ae gilt buckle, oval frame with broad sheet-like angled outside edge, with pecked foliate decoration, rectangular openwork plate folded widthways, narrowed on reverse, recessed with pin-slot for sheet pin, repousse lion passant reguardant outlined by drilled holes and ines of pecked decoration, backed by additional internal plate, two rivet-holes at attachment edge, one with dome-headed rivet, 42 x 25mm. 13th century.
