Summary

A system of ridges and ditches running parallel to a stream in Watering Carr were surveyed as part of the STANTA Archaeological Survey. The modern name of the wood and the 1845 name of Water Heading suggest this was an area of post medieval floated water meadows.

There is a system in Watering Carr, downstream from the dam of West Tofts Mere (NHER 37045). The ridges are parallel to the stream but waterlogging made total investigation unsafe. However the name of the wood, and the 1845 name of Water Heading suggest an area of floated water meadows.
