Summary

This ruined 19th century barn is made of reused medieval carved stones, and includes roll-moulded arch segments and blocks with Sussex marigolds and other graffiti. It is suggested that these may come from the 'Slipper Chapel' (NHER 2068), Abbey Barn (NHER 12242) or Walsingham Priory (NHER 2029).

Map

Ruined building, apparently a field barn, containing huge amounts of reused medieval limestone, mostly carved. Brick detailing appears 19th century; this may suggest material came from the so-called 'Slipper Chapel' when it was restored in the 19th century, rather than from Walsingham. However, a more probable source is the Abbey Barn at Barsham (NHER 12242). Seen only in passing from road.

The barn is depicted as part of a larger complex on the Second Edition 25-inch Ordnance Survey map (S3).
It was therefore likely constructed sometime between 1885 and 1904.
Google Street View imagery dated April 2026 indicates that significant repairs or alterations have taken place.
