Full Description
Old School Court.
December 1951. Listed Grade II.
Present building, former girls' school now flats, is dated in (S1) to 1790s with some scraps of 17th-century walling in south side. However (S2) argues that this is the site of Corpus Christi guildhall on documentary grounds, rather than site NHER 12914 as previously on the NHER.

Brick, the facade rendered and scored to imitate ashlar. Plaintile roofs. Rusticated quoins throughout. Two storeys and dormer attic in five bays, the central bay strongly projecting to contain passage to rear. Double-leaf doors with doorcase of panelled pilaster strips...Modillion timber eaves cornice below gabled roof. The gabled roof of the centre bay ends in a shouldered gable end with a doorway leading to a balcony: iron railings. Two gabled dormers each side in main roof... Internal gable-end stack to left, a rendered 17th-century stack right of centre and a small central stack. North gable wall is late 20th century except for a short portion with its 18th-century platband. Passageway through a porch has a stone arch at line of main wall and another marking west exit. Rear enriched with a copper ogee verandah on 2 octagonal iron posts. A two-storey mid-19th-centuty block runs west from south end…
INTERIOR. Main staircase to north of front range of c.1790: open string with two turned balusters to each tread and wreathed handrail. First floor front room of this part with a late 18th-century marble fire-surround sporting a leaf trail (oak) to the sides and a floral frieze below the mantle. Floral plaster cornice and acanthus rose. Remainder of rooms in this block not seen."
