NHER 37372 (Building record) - Castle Road Bridge

Bridge, formerly crossed Little River, now dry and infilled beneath.
Whitey-yellow brick with rough horizontal skintlings suggesting a date around 1780. Humpbacked, round arches, parapets mostly original with some sympathetic repair, deeply scored by traffic impact. Eroded sandstone plaque on north face.
Unusual complete survival of this date.

Listing Description Excerpt:
"Bridge. Probably late 18th century with later repairs. Gault brick with stone parapet copings. A single elliptical arch spans Little River, now dry. Raised band and now decayed inscription tablet on north face. Curving parapets have repairs but retain stone copings."
