Full Description
January 2001. NMP.
A number of areas of ridge and furrow can be seen at TF 7644 on 1945 aerial photographs (S1 and S2). The ridge and furrow is fairly narrow and regular, which would suggest a post medieval date, and it is located on reclaimed land. The features are still discernible on 1972 aerial photographs (S3).
A. Hunt (NMP), 26 January 2001.
May 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The major feature has an overall length of 108m, visible as an angled, irregular earthwork (S4) aligned in an approximate north to south direction (TF 7684 4494 to TF 7687 4486). There are further short stretches of irregular ditch to the west and southeast (S1). These may simply be drains but their irregular, zig zagging and angular nature might also suggest they were dug by the military as part of training exercises. They appear to post date the post medieval ridge and furrow earthworks. The features are visible, but overgrown in 1946. If these features were constructed by the military they may date from the 1939 to 1945 period, but may equally date from the 1914 to 1918 period.
M. Brennand (NMP), 1 May 2002.
